Hello. My name is Christian May, I am 20 years old and I am a student coming from Germany. For half a year I am going to share - together with other volunteers from Europe – an EVS project experience called “Holding Hands with Other Abilities” for the APCC in Coimbra, Portugal. I have a strong and deep interest in the Portuguese culture (literature and music), modern and ancient history and - of course and all over - the Portuguese flow of life that is in there in every single day (beneath those customs and traditions). So I want to learn more about this beautiful country, I want to use specifically the chance to discover Coimbra (and the amazing capital Lisboa!) and its people and cultural spirit. I applied for the EVS experience to participate in a session of informal-education that has among other things the aim of acquiring social, intercultural and personal skills. I consider this opportunity as a chance not just to broaden my intercultural horizon within a really true European dimension, but also to gain further input of typical professional working methodologies in another European country. I expect myself not just to deepen already existing skills (such as linguistics) but also to develop completely new skills in the field of (social) integration and other important business during the work with people suffering from Paralisia Cerebral in the way as the APCC provides it. At this point in time and abroad at the west end of Europe I want to complete questions of higher education by a complimentary aspect of active European citizenship. I hope for an instructive and unforgettable time full of joy and happiness. So Portugal and APCC - here I come!
